Customer Profile: A large Canadian customer requested an upgrade. With their specialized “plating on plastic” machinery, they are a critical supply link of plated automobile parts to the automotive industry.

The Problem: Our customer’s machinery was sound, but it was a generation old, not as efficient as they would like, and production was slowed by operations that were not linked.

The Solution: The project involved the conversion of two separate machines into one integrated unit by connecting the pre-plate operations and the plating operations with an automated shuttle. It also entailed electrical retrofitting of 8 hoists and replacement of the existing hoist-positioning system with an infrared system known as ICS.

Our OSST software was connected to the customer’s internal network, which allows remote users to monitor production and make process changes as necessary. All of these systems were linked to the OSST software for automated control:

• Circulation and dosing pumps
• Heating and cooling systems
• Various spray rinse processes
• Logging and registering of alarms

The Results: Our customer was very pleased with the increased efficiency and speed that resulted from the upgrade. Linking pre-plating and plating systems produced a faster, more controlled process. And the OSST software created the automated control they needed to ensure consistent quality, ISO reporting, optimum efficiency, resource conservation and safety features.
